Paint and Canvas..... She the sea .......BEGINNINGS

This work is a gentle or maybe genteel exploration around the concepts of painting/female crafts and gendered signifiers.
This is just a beginning and to what extent it succeeds (never completely) remains to be seen. As a practical and theoretical journey I think it has legs.
Early thoughts.....The epic seascape perceived as part of a feted Academy/Gallery tradition. Female crafts lacemaking/sewing/mending - domestic and marginalised.
The Sea -A surface to be traversed, Ships crewed largely by male matelots. Phallic lamp bearers standing high and pulsing impending danger. Yet the sea itself, the ships that carry men to war and those erect houses of light are all gendered female. The ambivalently gendered sea......
